Our sincere congratulations to the Sussex County Freeholder primary winners; Republicans Dawn Fantasia and Josh Hertzberg, and local congressional candidates Jay Webber and John McCann.
This will undoubtedly be a challenging election for the congressional seats, but it seems that the strongest candidates have been chosen for the fall.
John McCann won the Republican nomination for Congress in New Jersey’s 5th District, defeating Steve Lonegan in a vicious primary election. McCann, a former legal counsel to the Bergen County sheriff, received 53 percent while former Bogota Mayor Lonegan had 47 percent. McCann will face a one term Democrat, Josh Gottheimer in November.
The Sussex County Freeholder race reflected a mandate victory. The challenger’s campaign enjoyed active support from Senator Oroho, Assemblymen Space and Wirths, Sheriff Strada. County Clerk Parrott, Surrogate Chiusano and a flood of union money. We will see what happens next as the unions expand their seemingly unfettered control of Sussex County.
The winners will face two write-in Democratic candidates Patrick Curreri of Vernon and Howard Zatkowsky of Hardyston, as well as Independent Newton Mayor Wayne Levante in November.
Assemblyman Jay Webber fought off a multiple front battle to represent the Republicans in the 11th District to replace Rodney Frelinghuysen. He will face Democrat Mikie Sherrill in what will likely be a nationally target race for both parties.
The Skylands Patriot staff will follow the races closely and stand by our commitment to tell the truth.
